CURRICULUM

The curriculum will follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. Therefore it will provide children and famlies with;

  • ‘quality and consistency’

  • ‘a secure foundation’

  • ‘partnership working’

  • ‘equality of opportunity’.

We will meet the Department for Educations requirements for children's learning and development by covering seven areas;

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical Development

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

Each area of learning and development will be implemented through planned, purposeful play and through a mix of adult led and child initiated activity, helping children work through the different stages of development towards learning aspirations of skills and knowledge by the end of reception.

Ongoing non intrusive observations of what children can do and are interested in are assessed to understand what support children need to make good progress.

The curriculum will also reflect on how our children are learning, are they demonstrating the characterisitcs of a motivated, confident keen learner such as;

  • playing and exploring,

  • actively participating

  • thinking creatively and critically

It will also also examine the type of learner they are and the different ways in which they prefer to learn such as;

  • Visual  - seeing information in images

  • Auditory - hearing information

  • Reading/writing - ordered information, objects in sequence

  • Kinesthetic - hands on, moving around

The teaching strategies used will be based on a broad range of early years pedagogy drawn from a variety of theories and philosophies that have proven to have a significant positive impact on children's learning and development, and will depend heavily on the group of children who are in attendance. The child will always be at the heart of everything we do.
